LADIES' PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Wellington ladies' professional golf championship meeting was commenced in glorious golfing weather at Heretaunga to-day, when the qualifying rounds over 36 holes are being played. The links are in ideal condition. Neither fairways nor greens have ever been better, and the latter will become faster with the drying wiud. This morning firm putts were necessary. Visiting players include Miss T. Chrystall (Shirley),-the New Zealand champion; Mrs. Guy Williams (Masterton), Mrs. Collins (Featherston), Miss Beadel (Christchurch), Miss Hamlin (Middlemore), Mrs. Godby (Shirley), and Miss Sim (Palmeraton North). Notwithstanding the ideal conditions, scoring, with a few exceptions, was not brilliant. The leading scores in the first 18 holes of the qualifying round were:— Miss C. Chrystall (Shirley) 80 Mrs. G.
