"INADEQUATE BUS SERVICE" Dissatisfaction at the transport facilities given to residents of Karaka and Scorching Bays by the City. Council was voiced at the annual meeting of the Eastern Suburbs League last evening. . Mr. A. W. Palmer (Karaka Bay) mentioned that it was grossly unfair that residents in the bay should be asked to pay 9d to get into town by bus, while Seatoun people were able to make the journey by tram for 3d. In addition, the bus service was put down to the minimum and was often erratic. There were no buses on Saturday afternoon or on Sunday. The protest against the "inadequate service" was.supported by Mr. M. A. Turner (Scorching Bay), who said it appeared that 1 the buses were being nin more for sightseeing purposes than to meet tlie needs of the suburban dwellers. Scorching Bay was one of the finest and safest beaches around the city and would bo a gold rome to the. council if more buses were run to Karaka.Bay. He moved that the couiv oil bo recpiested to arrange for buses to Karaka Bay on Saturday afternoon and Sunday ii\ fine weather during the summer months. The motion was carried. : The report on bus and tramway transport, which had been drawn up by members of the. league and the Civic League and forwarded to the council, was also discussed, and regret was expressed at (he "casual" niiinner in which the report had been treated. A further statement had been sent to the council. j The following resolution was adopted: "That this league expresses appreciation j of the Civic League's reports and fully endorses them, hoping that the City Council will give serious consideration to the reports."
