.(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TEMUKA, 15th" October. Mr. T. D. Burnett, Reform candidate for the Temuka electorate, addressed the first meeting of his campaign at Temuka to-night. He condemned triennial Parliaments as too short, and advocated four-year Parliaments. The salary of £450 to members, ho said, was too small for other than members who were financially independent. He admitted that mistakes had been made in connection with the purchase of land for soldiers, but denied that any Govcrimeut could have done better under tho circumstances which prevailed following the war. Mr. Burnett advocated more science in farming, to secure the maximum production from tho land; to secure this, oiily men and women of the right temperament should be put on the land. He condemned too much dependence on the Government, saying 'if too many gathered round the old milch cow she would go dry. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks. .
