ELECTRIFIED BARBED WIRE ITS USE IN NOKTH CHINA Australian Press Association. j SHANGHAI, 14th September. Electrified barbed wire was for the first time in the history of Chinese warfaro used by the retreating ChihliShantung forces in a desperate effort to stem the advance of the Nationalists in the Lunachow district. Current was drawn from the Luanchow coal mines. Orders have been issued by the Nationalist commander to extorminto Shantungese and show now quarter. The fighting is reported to be unusually severe. The Northern commander, Wang Chi, one of the highest in the Shantung army, was killed in battle while unsuccessfully defending Leiehuang. Chang Chung Chang, the erstwhile Military Governor of Shantung, and the supreme commander of the rebel Shantung forces, is reported to be heading for the coast in readiness-for flight to the neutral port of Dairen.
