RETURN BY DAYLIGHT
AIRMEN'S DECISION (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Leaving the Wigram Aerodrome at dawn, the Southern Cross will make the return trip to Australia in daylight. Tho 'plane may not reach the Richmond aerodrome until after dark, but a safe landing will bo made because the flyors are familiar with the layout of the landing ground. Captain Kingsford Smith stated this morning that following on a caroful inspection of the aerodrome grounds, lie was convinced that the Southern Cross could take .off from there. They would require about' half a mile run. "We have had quite enough of night flying," added the airman, in stating that he and Mr. Ulm had decided definitely that their return trip to Australia in the Southern Cross would be made in daylight. On the flight to New Zealand 360 gallons of petrol were used, the cost being £36. The quantity to be carried on the return trip will be 700 gallons, as it is anticipated that head winds may be encountered, in which case the trip may occupy nineteen to twenty hours.
