MIRAMAR DRAINAGE

EXPEDITING THE WORK

A deputation from the Miramar Progressive Association waited upon the City Council last. evening and urged that the work in connection with the stormwater drainage system in Miramar be carried out as expeditiously as possible. The claims of the district were placed before councillors by Messrs. E. O. Thornton (president) and P. P. Hean (secretary), who emphasised the necessity of the work. The deputation urged that the council should waive certain formalities and get on to the1 job immediately. In reply, the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) assured the deputation that the work would be carried out as quickly as possible, though, of course, there were some formalities to be observed. To expedite the work, a portion of the loan would be raised locally. In reply to a further, question by Mr. Thornton, Mr. Troup said it would probably be about the Now Year before tho work could be started. He admitted it would seem a long time to the ratepayers, but the council was moving as expeditiously as possible.
