A statement issued by the Overseas Shipping Representatives' Association. says: "So far from seeking peace the Waterside Workers' Federation has taken one more deliberate step to render chaos inevitable. In the face of the watersiders' action their peace gestures are obviously insincere." The shipowners refused a further request by the watersiders for a conference, stating that it would not meets the men's representatives until work was resumed under the new award.
