The Federal Prime Minister, Mr. Bruce, in a telegram to the Waterside Workers' Federation, says: "The' Government must uphold the law and enforce it. I am asking the steamship owners to take action under the award to carry on the transport service, and I ask your federation, in the. interests of the people of Australia, to do likewise." The State Cabinets of New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania have telegraphed Mr. Bruce promising him every support. Mr. Bavin stated that the New South Wales Government would give fullest co-operation in carrying out the law affording protection to all citizens who were prepared to carry on the work of the marine transport industry under the terms of the award.
