TRAINING AT RICCARTON

The weather was pleasant for training operations at Ricearton yesterday, and the following is culled from the "Star." The number seven track provided fast going and some interesting work' was witnessed. Some of the trainers made an early start, and throughout the morning's work there was more talk about the Tasman flight than the horses. The Southern Cross, attended by four local 'planes, passed over Riecarton, close to the racecourse, at 9.18 a.m., those on the course having an excellent view of the big machine in I the final stages of her flight. Childsplay waa one of the early workers, | her task being six furlongs by herself, while Impertinence and Rock Drill were well matched over the same ground. Broadmoor did a working gallop over six furlongs and Prickles did similar work. There was not much between Silver Coot and Amourette at the end of five furlongs, run in lmin 3 3-sscc. Hurly Burly moved freely in a spin over six furlongs, while _ Sudden Storm was responsible for a similar performance. Goblin Market and Philippic registered fast lime over six furlongs, with Goblin Market going easily at tho finish. Battle Colours moved off slowly from tho fivo furlong post and finished up liis task in attractive style, showing plenty of dash over the last three. Don Jose and Crossbow ran six furlongs attractively, without being ridden out. First Sight dashed over three furlongs very smartly. Chido and Quaeceo were together all through a five furlong spin, which they completed in lmin 3sec. Honeycomb and Merivale galloped six furlongs, taking lmin 3 3-sscc for the last five. ■ ' Chickwheat, Lancer, and Gold Mint were associated over seven furlongs. They went off slowly, but ran the full journey in lmin 29 3-ssec. Chickwheat finished half a length in front o£ the other pair, and was going very easily at the end. The two-year-old Honour was going easily alongside the Sutala three-year-old Pride at the end of a three-furlong sprint. Sarnia and Countersign sprinted three furlongs in 38 l-ssec, finishing together. Footfall and Starshooter got to the end of seven furlongs in lmin 29 4-ssec, with both going well at the finish. The Viscount covered six furlongs easily in lmin 20sec, Corsetiere joining in for the last half-mile. . Money Order rattled off half a mile m 49 3-ssec, and did it well. Paperchase was not unduly bustled while running six furlongs in lmin 16 l-ssec. Star Raid beat Skyquest comfortably over half a mile in 50sec. Rotor and Commenter sprinted half a mile easily, Rotor finishing in front. Front Rank was given a working gallop over six furlongs. Hoylake and Bolero were let oft with easy exercise in the middle. Martarma was out, looking well, but he was confined to light exercise. He will start galloping again next week. Count Cavour jumped off at the mile post, and, after going two furlongs and a half by himself, he was joined by Amor. The pace was sound nil the way, Count Cavour finishing in front of his mate, after doing the journey in lmin 41 l-ssee. He was always galloping freely, and it was a very attractive performance, which will bring him into Xew Zealand Cup diguiivsions. v Malmsey easily traversed six furlongs in lmin loseu.
