HUTT RUGBY CLUB
The Hiitt Kugby Football Club's annual social function, "presided over by Mr. M'Bain, was largely attended. Various speakers referred to .the club's activities during the season now ending. The playing qualities of the Hutt Club's members, and of footballers generally, were referred to by Mr. H. P. Kidson, in proposing the toast of the "Hutt Rugby Football Club." The encouragement of the lower grade players was also touched upon by tho speaker. Congratulations to the Jolmsonville Club upon winning the senior B championship, for which Hutt were nm-nera-up, were offered on behalf of the club by Mr. W. T. Doig, who also spoke in praise of the work of the Hutt cbauhes. The toast of the •'Wellington Rugby Union" was proposed by Mr. H. B. M'Dougall, and-replied to by Major T. King. The latter stated that Strand Park and Taita Park were the property of the Rugby Union, which body was doing its best in tho interests of the game and players. A consdierable sum had been spent on Strand Park, and more would be spent as the opportunity offered. Othfcr toasts honoured were: "Coaches," proposed by Mr. R. Synott and replied to by Mr. Cooper; "President and Vice-Pre-sident," proposed by Mr. G. J. M'Naught and replied to by officials present; "Referees," proposed by Mr. F. Ansell and responded to by Mr. F. Halley; "Kindred Sports Clubs," and "Visitors," proposed by Mr. M'Bain and replied to by representatives; "St. John Ambulance," proposed by Mr. Grierson and replied to by Mr. A; Black. Mr. W. C. James's cup for the best performance in the club went to the senior B team, runnei'S'Up in the championship. A medal given by Mr. E. C. Russell was presented to H. A. Smith for being the best disciplined member of the club. W. Jarman won a gold pencil, presented by Mi1. B. Matthews, for the most improved player in the club. The fourthgrade team presented their coach (Mr. W. Morrison) with a trophy in recognition of his services. There was on view a cup given by Mr. F. Tressider for the member of the club who scored most points.
