For the first match piny round in the Australian Amateur Folf Championship at Eoso Bay there was lino weather. The sixteen who had qualified included A. D. S. Duncan .(Wellington) Tlic results were: Fawcett beat Appcrbj', 5 uiwl '6; fciturrock beat Headlam, at the forty-first; Duncan beat Edgar, 3 and 1; Ncttlefold beat Bcttington, 10 and 9; Hancock beat NigelSmith, at tlie thirty-sovcntli; Jackson beat Naukivcll, 5 and 3; Schlapp beat Leigh Winser, at tho , thirty-soventh; Keane beat Eastway, 4 and o. ■ A very short putt with which Edgar failed at the- eighteenth iv tho morning round made him one down to Duncan. In tho afternoon round, which fluctuated from ono to tho other, with a. number of holes halved, Duncan holed a thirty-foot putt after having, in taking his stance, moved the ball slightly, and forfeited a stroke. Duncan was 3 up at tho twenty-fourth and won the match, 3 and 2.
