WELLINGTON CENTRE MONTHLY MEETING Tho monthly meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, Mr. A. C. Kitto presiding. In connection with the New Zealand cycle road race, which takes place next Saturday, it was stated that 42 entries had been received, including riders from Auckland, Gisbornc, Christchurch, Pahnerston, Wairurapa, and Hawkes Bay. The Papanui Cycling Club wrote stating that it was anxious for outside competitors to take part iv its 100 miles road race. Mr. Kitto said ■ that the club was very keen, and that the clubs in Wellington should endeavour to send some of their members down to compote. The attendance at the Basin Reserve on the day of the Pahnerston North-Wel-lington road race will probably be seriously affected by the Maori-New South Wales Rugby match which takes place on the same day. • A motion by Mr. A. C. Kitto, that the Bennett Memorial road race should start inside the Basin Reserve, was carried. Mr. C. H. Thompson was appointed solo handicapper for the Palmerston North-Wellington road race. Permisison was granted to the Eastbourjie Rugby Football Club to hold a club sports day on the Eastbourne' Recreation Ground on 29th September. The Labour Day Committee and the Watkanqe Amateur Athletic Club were granted permission to hold sports gatherings on 22ud October and Easter Monday respectively. Mr. Honey waited upon the centre and asked if the Mayor could have the assistance of the Wellington Centre during the carnival which will be held in November in aid of the National Memorial Fund. Mr. Kitto, on behalf of the centre, assured him that they would do everything they could to help the' matter along. A letter was received from the Wairarapa Sub-Centre asking for financial assistance iv connection with the recent Wellington Cross Country Championship, which resulted in a loss of £17 7s Id. On the motion of Mr. Kitto it was decided to contribute £5 towards the cost of the medals. Mr. H. Rose gave notice of motion that the certificate for the provincial championships should be discarded and bronze medals substituted, and when a record is broken a gold medal should be awarded. Owing to the difficulty in reading fourfigure registration numbers, Mr. S. Spence moved that the harrier clubs should be allotted the lowest possible registration numbers. After some discussion Mr. J. Finn moved an amendment that the centre should obtain about 200 sets of numbers, to be used only for teams' races. Mr. Sullivan moved a further amendment that a sub-committee consisting of Messrs. S. Spence, J. Finn, and F. Silver should be appointed to go into the question. Mr. Sullivan's amendment was carried after a show of hands. The question of purchasing a loud speaker for use on the Basin Reserve duriug electric light sports meetings was brought up by Mr. M'Cormick. He said that numerous complaints had been made to him about the difficulty in hearing the results of the races, nnd he thought it would pay them to buy one if possible. Mr. F. S. Hill was instructed to arrange for a demonstration. Mr. M'Cormick suggested that, the programme for athletic meetings during the first half of the coming season should be arranged at the annual meeting. Mr. Guy also suggested that the heats should be run off early in the week to allow toy the better working of the meetings. Messrs. W. A. Melrose, F. S. Hill, and H. J. Sutherland were appointed a subcommittee to report on the two questions at the annual meeting. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. H. M'Cormick, F. S. Hill, and D. Pans was appointed to consider tho question of trainers' passes. The date of the annual meeting ot the Wellington Centre .was fixed for 9th October. A letter was received from the Waikanae Amateur Athletic Club stating that Mr. Philpots had been elected club delegate to the Wellington-Centre.
