Strong northerly to westerly winds rulod during Tuesday with gale force at places, but by this morning tho direction had changed to southerly in the northern districts of the South Island and at Wellington, and thero was an easterly tendency in the Taranald region. The weatlier lias remained fair in Canterbury, but olaevrhero it has been cloudy and unsettled, with rain in most districts, although It had cleared by this raorniug In Westland and Otago. There have been some heavy falls in tho northern portion of the North Island and in tho north-west districts of the South Island. Farewell Spit registered 212 points, Westport ISI points, Greymouth 62 points, Arthur's Pass 110 points, and Wellington 64 points.
