UMPIRES' MEETING

Further appeals for more umpires were made at the annual meeting of the Wellington Cricket Umpires' Association, presided over by Mr. W. B. Bock. Tho chairman stated that last season me twenty-three clubs had boon written to regarding tho n .et of umpires, but only three had replied. He considered that a further effort was desirablo, as for the good of cricket in Wellington it was necessary to have more umpires so that third class and boys' games could be given appointments. The chairman of tho Wellington Cricket Association, Mr. C. G. Wilson, referred to the importance of the work carried out by tho Umpires' Association and its members. Good umpiring made for tho success of the game, and ho could see difficulties ahead if the number of active umpires 'in Wellington was not increased very materially. The local body might bo tho largest of. its kind in New Zealand, but more members wero still required. The report and balance-sheet, details of which have been published in "The Post," were adopted. Tributes were paid to tho work of tho officers, with special reference to the services rendered by Messrs. W. R. Bock (who was retiring from the position of representative on the Cricket Association) and W. S. Hood, the hon. secretary. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. J. P.
