GROWING AFFILIATION. Tho growth of golf in the. Dominion is shown in the annual report of the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association, to be presented at the annual meeting in Dunedin on 17th October. The total revenue for the year was £1112 17s 7d, and the expenditure £1080 9s Id, including £38 5s Sd in connection with the Kirk-Windeyer Cup matches, and £24 18s 7d for inspection of championship courses. Surplus revenue over expenditure was £32 8s 6d, and the total surplus of assets over liabilities as disclosed by the balance-sheet, was £286 2s sd. This year's contest for the Kirk-Win-deyer Cup, played at Miramar last January, resulted in New South Wales winning the cup by a very narrow margin, the matches being all square and the decision therefore being in accordance with the number of holes up. During the year just closed' 15 clubs have joined the association and one has resigned (owing to disbandment), the membership at the close of the year being 148, as against 134 last year and 123 the previous year. One club has joined since tho close of the year. The year ending 31st July, 1928, saw many changes in the council. Sir Alex. Roberts was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. R. C. Kirk. Mr. J. B. MacEwan, on his return from England, resigned from the council, and Mr. W. A. Kiely was elected to fill tho vacancy. Major Conway was transferred from Wellington, and Mr. M. J. Crombie was elected to fill the vacancy. Since the close of the financial year the leave of absence granted to Mr. A. J. Abbott expired, and his place has been filled by the election of Mr. L. O.H. Tripp. The council wishes to place on record the valuable services rendered by Major Conway during the time he acted as a member of the council.
