MEMORIAL SITE

°"A VERY HAPPY SOLUTION"

Commenting upon the decision of the Government to make a portion of the Quinton's corner area available aa a aite for the Citizens' War Memorial, Mr. S. Hearst Seager said: — "The creation of.a new site at Quinton's corner enables finality to be reached as to the position of the Wellington Citizens' War Memorial. The triangle which will be formed at the intersection, of Bowen street, Lambton quay, and the new street connecting them is, I consider, an excellent site, and one which afford? a,very happy solution. •"' ' • ; . "The monument placed there would be quite freo from the groat disadvantages which exist on the Parliamentary site. It would face north of east, and therefore bo well lighted. It would have the front instead of the back in view from the northern portion of the Parliamentary grounds, and from the Terrace in front of the old building to-. 1 wards the south a good view would be obtained of the equestrian figure surmounting it. A splendid view of it would bo obtained from the northern end of Lambtoh quay, from the whole of Molesworth street, and also from Bunny street. It would not interfere in any way with the visibility of traffic, and there Would be ample space all round the memorial for the Anzac Day ceremonials. It will not block out the view of the Parliament Buildings and grounds from Lambton quay. Another advantage is that the wish of the conimittce that the memorial should be at the entrance or gateway to the city will be fulfilled. '.' ■ ■
