TRAGEDY AT SEA
MAN JUMPS OVERBOARD (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post") AUCKLAND, This Day^ A tragic incident marred tho otherwise uneventful voyage of the Shaw, Savill Company's liner Arawa 'from Southampton to Auckland. At 4 o'clock on the morning of Bth June, two days before the, vessel arrived at Colon, a trimmer named Dennis Cain, aged 21, jumped overboard frpm the main deck into the shark-infested waters of the Caribbean Sea and was nover seen again. ... The weather was fine and there was a slight swell at tho timo. The serenity of the ship was suddenly disturbed by tho cry of "man overboard" from the look-out man, who happened to see Cain atriko the water. In less than five minutes ono of the lifeboats was launched, the Arawa quickly camo to a standstill, and a thorough search commenced. In addition to the efforts of the lifeboat's crew, who,thoroughly searched the area for over two hours, lifebelts illuminated with flares were thrown overboard. With tho approach of dawn thecaptaiu decided that further search would be useless, and the Arawa proceeded on her voyage.
