FRENCH SILK INDUSTRY
In order to protect Persian silk culture the French Government has prohibited the importation of artificial silks. Great Briatin has forwarded a note of protest, but the Government decided it would accept no dictation I regarding home affairs., The Mejlis refused to pass •. the proposal—to impose a heavy tax on American goods in retaliation for America's heavy : duties on Persian carpets. It was I pointed out that carpets are luxuries, but the goods Persia purchases from America are necessities. v In parts of North Siam both parties to a lawsuit are put under water, and the one staying under the longest wins the suit.
