AUCKLAND'S FLYING-BOAT
My. R. Darroch, in the course of a lecture on the Navy and the Navy League at Karori, emphasised the necessity for the correct co-operation between the three services in any scheme of defence, and said that air power and sea power must advunce side by side. A picture of the type' of flying boat, which is to be Btationed at Hobsonville •Air'Base,.in Auckland, was shown on the screen. It is driven by two engines of 525 horse-power each. The armament consists of three Lewis guns, and two 550----pound bombs, or an equivalent bomb load. When used for reconnaissance purposes the range.is 680 miles, at a cruising speed of 90 miles per hour. . The range is reduced when carrying out bombing operations to. slightly over 500 miles.
