: SUPERANNUATION PROPOSAL The-report presented 'to to-day's meeting of the Wellington;' Fire Board showed that during May!2s calls were received. Nineteen of these were actual fires, ten being property "' fires, five chimney firesj and four"gorse fires. It was stated that.there^had.been ho prosecutions in respect to the chimney fires. ■' ''.-...■ .. '• .-. •■. ';■" -. ■ ■■ Inquiries are to be made as to the formation of a superannuation fund. It was pointed out that special circumstances would have to bo mat, as the usual retiring age was 60, which was an age greater, than that>t whieh;fireriien could be expected:.to be* running up ladders. •■'"•■ • -. .; ,;; . Fire waste;'prevention: addresses in school were1 briefly considered,*,, a letter being received from the Education Board asking for: particulars as to the proposed addresses.' ', .'''-:■ A letter was received, from the Dar-L gaville Mre" Board saying that the j two fire, inquests recently held in Wellington had had the desired effect of calling the attention'of the public to the fact that inquiries may be made into the circumstances of!•;,' suspicious fires. In reply, to a suggestion that the origin of every, fire should be inquired into, it was pointed out that.this would be impossible in. a.,plate.'like Wellington with its hundreds of'fires per year.
