CONFERENCE REMITS The following remits wore passed at the, Public Service Conference yesterday:— The executive council of the Public Service Association strongly supports the re-enactment of the. Summer Time j Bill. That in future Appeal Board elections the following procedure to be followed by the association, should be:—(1) Invite sections to submit names. • (2) Eefer all' suggested names back to sections, with a short history of the career of each, such names to. be returned to executive showing tho . section's order of preference for the information of the Executive Committee. (3) Executive to make final choice for recommendation to members. That the limitation of superannuation to a maximum of £300 per annum in the case of officers joining the Public Service after the passing of "The Public Service Classification and Superannuation Amendment Act, 1909, to be removed." Tha* the allowances from the.Superannuation Fund to the children of deceased Public servants be continued up to the ago of sixteen years instead of fourteen years as at-present, as a child to-day is unable to earn his or her own living at fourteen years. That in view of the increased competition being experienced by the railways, and tho granting of concessions by ( motor companies, ■ tho Baihvay Department be approached by the association with a view to' obtaining for association members and their families dining annual leave, reduced fares.on the : railways, to any part of New Zealand. _ That the conference affirms tho prin- | ciplc of a universal Saturday half-holi-day.—Southland. . • That the council approve tho^proposal tr provide for superannuation for.the association's employees, and that a subcommittee consisting of the executive officers and Messrs. Mitchell and Fullerton bo appointed to investigate the matter and report to tho next meeting of tho executive council, That the Government bo requested to prescribe standard books for the use of both secondary and primary schools and to insist on their use exclusively by all education and high school boards. Tho question of a revision of subscriptions bo left in tho hands of the executive to present a report at tho first conference after tho regrading; that tho executive committee bo instructed to collect information regarding the question of members of the . association being brought under tho provisions of the I.C. and A. Act, and forward such information to tho various sections in order that tho matter may bo discussed at the next conference. That rule 15 be amended to provide- that tho general treasurer bo a member of tho Executive Council; that rule 20 be amended by adding after "vice-presidents" in the first lino, tho words "who shall bo tho exocutivo officers of tho association"; that representations be made to the- Defence Department with regard to altering tho regulation wliich provides that the pay of Territorials proceeding to camp is to commence- on.the day following their entry into camp, so that pay may commence from the timo Of setting out for camp; that tho executive decides to adopt a medallion for life members; that in view of tho cost'of living index figures the, •Government bo pressed during the em-rent session to restoremaximum salaries to the 1920 basis.
