MENACE TO REFORM

. ; —♦ THE THIRD PARTY A number of subjects of political interest, including that of the third' party, were touched upon by the Minister of jusuec line Hon. ¥. J. Kolleston) in addressing the Junior -Reform League gathering last night. Mr. Kolleston spoke of the power and influence of the British Constitution, which he said had been brought in the course of many years to a great state o£ efficiency, as near perfection as possible, it being a model for those of other countries and quite unique in its way. He showed that the'two-party system was the strongest for good work, three or four parties making for disruption, and he urged that it was very necessary for Kei'orm people to that the third party in New Zealand might do harm in the way of dividing votes. It was a thing to be considered and ; watched carefully, and he hoped that the younger branches would keep it in mind as a menace to the Kct'qrm Party. Mr. Kolleston outlined some o£ the differences'between.: the policy of the Labour Party and that of the Government, the former being for socialising all services on land' aud sea, and the Reform Party being in support of individual effort where wished by the people, and for their advantage. In reference to unemployment, Mr. Kolleston said it was a curious thing that it came to most .%mntries in, cycles; -he was of opinion that New Zealand was nearly through her troubles in that way, (id that in the meautime relief works were being carried out and further planned. He dc'precated the idea that the Government should be compelled to find work at top price indefinitely—the country's finances would not stand it—-and he thought that it would mean that a number would lean on the Government and 'neither take trouble to keep their jobs nor seek earnestly after others. In the meantime the trade balance was being restored, and he looked confidently to much better times in the near -future.
