COMMUNITY FESTIVAL

A Community Festival- •was held last Saturday in the Worser Bay Church Hall, and proved a conspicuous success. The afternoon session was formally opened by tho Rev. C. 0. Hailwood. Exhibits were displayed in the main hall, and in the adjoining classrooms afternoon tea was available. The awards were as follow: —Drawing in chalk of fruit (under 8 years): Brien Chisholm 1, Joan Clark 2,' Joan Sharp highly commended. Writing (Standards 1. and II.):- Stuart Huntington 1. Writing (Standards 111. and IV.): Eric Sharp 1, Jock Lancaster %■ Essay (under 14 years): Barbara Silver 1, Norman Chisholm 2. Jissay (over 14 years): Francis_ Huntington 1, Betty Huntington 2, Sylvia Hall and Edna Welsh highly commended. buapshots (group of four; under 18 years): L. Doherty 1 and 2; group ot six (opeiO. Mr IS.'P. Salmon 1, Mrs. W. Hanchard 2, Mr" F. Silver highly commended. Embroidered; article (under 18): Miss Fiona Stewart 1, Miss Peggie Mackie 2 Knitted article (under 18): Miss Muriel Maidment, highly commended. Embroidered article: M?m A. North 1 and 2 Knitted article: Miss A. A. Campbell 1, Mrs Kellow 2. Crocheted article: Mrs. W. Hanchard 1, Mrs E. Moxham 2. Sponge sandwich (under 18): Miss Kispah Browne highly commended. Coconut ice (under 18): Hiss Betty Huntington 1, Miss N. Park 2. Sponge sandwich: Miss M. Wcsney 1, Mrs. Sharp 2 Coconut ice: Miss Kathryn Murio 1, Miss H. Wcsney 2. Pastry: Mrs. U L. Brailsford 1, Mrs. E. E. Masters 2. Pikelets: Miss N. Kellow 1, Mrs W. Murie 2. Fruit cake: Mrs. Chisholm 1. Jam (two jars): Miss K. Murie 1, Mrs. W. W. Moxham 2. Pickles (two jars): Mrs. Kircher highly commended. Garden produce (best exhibit): Mrs. Perry highly commended. Article in wood (boys 8-15): Dick Huntington 1, Charlie Mackie 2. Useful article o£ least cost: Boys—Harry Caisley highly commended; girls—Sylvie Hull 1, Peggie Mackie 2. The evening session was devoted to musical and elocutionary competitions, many of the items being'of a high order. Mrs. Harkness presented the prizes and certificates at the conclusion of the session. The following are the awards in this section of the festival:—Vocal solo, own selection (lady), Miss D.
