(By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHim'CH, This Day. Fire destroyed a house and shop in Seaview road, New Brighton, early this morning. The tenant, Mrs. J. Carney, had a narrow escape.- She was awakened by the smoke and had to jump from the Verandah, and injured her back. She is the widow of the late Detective Carney. AUCKLAND, This Day. An outbreak of fire in Spedding's Buildings, Customs street West, at 10.30 last night, was confined to the part of the ground floor occupied by Frank Ktt, trading as Cuningham and Co., 'carriers and shipping agents.. The damage is estimated at about £450. Kapok and tow on the first floor made a good blaze, but the flames Were subdued in a few minutes. Smoke found its way into an adjoining building, occupied by Duthie, Bridßon, and Co.
