GROWTH OF SUBURBS COMMISSION'S ESTIMATES LOOKING AHEAD An interesting table is included in tho report of the Access Commission to tho City Council showing the population of the various eastern and western suburbs, together with an estimate of tho ultimate population of those suburbs and the years in which those maximum figures are likely to be' reached. In order that the table may bo fitted into the newspaper column it has'been : slightly rearranged. With tho figures below the heading "area built on" are,-1 for each suburb, figures in parentheses showing the numbers of acres still to be built upon, and the years in which maximum populations may be reached are similarly shown under the heading "Ultimate population." . Two other tables are of general interest; they show the distance, in chains, from the G.P.O. to Kilbirnie Post Office, on the east, and to the eastern end of the Karori tunnel, on the west, by various routes. The figures, are: — G.P.O. to Kilbinrie, via:— Constable street, 278 chains; Elizabeth street (present tunnel route), 232; Elizabeth street, diagonal, 226; Elizabeth and Queen streets, 225; Brougham avenue and Moxham .avenue, 232; Brougham avenue ajid Tapiri street, 236; Ellice street, 234; Patterson street (the route recommended by tho Commission), 240,-» Collego grounds, 230; Hospital road (no tunnel), 290; Hospital road and Goa street, 280; Hospital road and Mem street, 272 chains.
