The Paris correspondent of "The Times" states that a lower death rate 'compensated for the lower birth rate in 3927, compared Vith 1926. ,Tho population now is 40,060,000, which is the highest since the war. The births were 741.715, the lowest since 1913, and Die deaths were 676,666, compared with 713,456 in 1926. Marriages, which have been progressively declining, were' the lowest since the war, numbering 337,864.
