They scuttled the cutters and escaped inland, followed by an armed party from the Chinese Customs cruiser Yengshing, which had appeared on tho scene. The destroyer Soinme also landed a search party. The pirates abandoned the hostages aud fled to the hills. The officers, the boat's crew, aiid tho Chinese passengers were recovered, together with part of the loot.
