UNITED POLITICAL PARTY

(To the Editor.) Sir, —On the occasion of a recent visit to Oamaru; the organiser of the United Political Party (Mr. Davy) is said to have declared that he had for years been a Reformer, that he was still a Reformer, and that his reason fbr organising a party to oppose Mr. Coates was that the latter was "too Socialistic." In spite of this declaration the meeting, which was composed entirely of Liberals, decided to form a. local branch of the United Political Party. Is it possible, Sir, that the Liberals of New Zealand are anti-Socialistic, and that they consider the present Government too progressive? ' Are the Liberals going to masqtierade in the garb of the Conservative, in the hope that they will delude the electors into voting against the Reform Government? "It would be interesting to know who are the antiSocialists who are providing the fighting fund for the Forbes-cum-Veiteh-eum-Davy organisation. Is there wonder that Mr. Harry Holland is smacking his lips with •complacency? Most of the good people in the South appear to regard the United Political Party as a political joke. But sometimes these jokes are attended with serious consequences. The electors' should .know of the trap that is being laid, for them by the subtle jokers.—l am, etc.,. ANTI-SOCIALIST. Oamaru,'2Bth May.
