LOWER HUTT'S POLICE
Considering that the strength of the Police Force at Lower Hutt had not kept pace with either the population or the needs of the borough, the local Borough Council recently 'decided to ask the Police' authorities to give the matter attention. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council, Councillor A. F, Roberts reported that a deputation had a very satisfactory interview with the Commissioner of Police, and it was probable that improvements would be made. The Commissioner, however, showed that since^ December, 1927, there had been a decline in crime in the borough. Councillor Campbell: "Does he means a decline in the cases that were detected?"
Before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day, Francis Doran, alias Prank Doran, a seaman, aged 62, was fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment for his third offence of drunkenness. "This man was before the Court yesterday morning," said Sonior-Sei'geant Butler, "and was fined 10s." ■■ ' Jlaurico Moscovitch and his company concluded their' \yollington season at tho Grand Opera Houso last evening, when tho final presentation of "Tho Terror" was given. At tho conclusion of the performance Mr. Moscovitcli expressed thanks for the support accorded tho company by tho Wellington public, to whom it was a pleasure to play.
