TRENTHAM TRACK NOTES

Overhead conditions were perfect at Trentham this morning. There had boon, a light frost, but all vestige of it had gone by the time work commenced. Naturally the tracks are heavy, but not so bad as might be imagined, except about three furlongs down tl tiaight, which have been topdressed. ]?or this reason practically all the, work this morning was done from the stands round to the: half-mile post on the trial grass. The portion down the back' provided . excellent going, especially from the mile to-the fourfurlong post. Royal Game, who with Black Mint loaves to-night for Dunedin, sprinted half a mile in 52 l-ssec. . He looks well. Dancing Star and Teheka finished ahead of The Dove in a dash over four furlongs in 52 l-ssec. The Dove showed speed for three furlongs. She ia an improved filly in appearance. Carrigall.en, who has shown himself to lie a fast, quick jumper over hurdles, was given a working gallop over seven furlongs right round to the winningpost. Kindle and Rotowhero beat Mandarine over six furlongs in linin 22 l-ssec, finishing up at the winning post. Black Mint and Handsome broke away at the mile and a quarter post in the straight, Black Mint being held back to, his mate all the way round to the half-mile, the six furlongs being run in linin 24 l-ssec. Black Mint hit out well, and could have done a lot better. Efforts are being made to secure C. Emerson for him in the Birthday Handicap at Dunedin. Royal Damon sprinted from the mile to the half-mile twice in 54sec and 56 sec, and could have done better. He had C. Scott up. B. H. Morris will ride him if he starts in the Eaukawa Cup. Lady Gay,, who has never-looked better, jumped one p flight of hurdles, and then sprinted half a mile up the back in 55sec. , Cerf and Eing Boy showed plenty of dash in a sprint up the back, the-half-mile taking 53sec. Vindication,, Volplane, and the Kilbroney—Capping Day gelding took 54 sec to run half a mile up the back. Vindication showed plenty of dash. Matu led Wheel over four flights of hurdles. Matu gave, a finished display, and Wheel did not shape so badly for a novice. Afterwards Matu was jumped over one of the brush fences in the centre of the course. He should make a good hack steeplechaser. ' . C ki., left for Auckland yesterday. He has gone by a goods train and will have a long journey. As he is not required'for the first day of the Northern Meeting no doubt he will have time to freshen up. His first engagement will bo in the Carbine Plate on Monday next, in which no doubt he will be ridden by one of the sons of his owner, Mr. A. J. Toxward. He had been working particularly well prior to leaving Trentham. Shot Silk has joined J. Gage Williams's active brigade. He still makes a noise, but looks well in himself. Staghunter, Cimabue, and Royal Duke were noticed trotting round this morning. All three look in excellent health, and they should be in:gr,eat order when the time comes for them to start serious, tasks again. Cimabue in particular looks as bright and as round as an apple. . Albert Goodman .had the last of Eene's progeny on the course. This is a. neat bay yearling filly by Acre who has been named Lady Eenc. She is only- in the preliminary stages of her education. ■ Nothing strenuous is being asked of S. Reid's horses-while, he' is away on holiday. Panther is. wintering well, and should bo a useful handicap horse next season. The Kilbroney—Anthem rising two-year-old looks a-likely sort.
