"ELIJAH."
Tiie lioyal Wellington. Choral Union has selected Mendelssohn's "Elijah" for its concert on Saturday ereniug next at the Town Hall. The box plan opens at The Bristol to-morrow morning. This work is stamped with an air of distinction which a master only can confer, and this is shown for example in 'the air "Woe Unto Them," the choruses. "Thanks ho to <md," "Ho Not Afraid," "He, Watching Over Israel," "Behold (iod the Lord Passed By," the great piece of declamation for soprano which opens (bo second part, the trio, "Lift Thlue Eyes," and • tho baritone air, "It's Enough." These are.not only due as music, but are animated by' that lofty and dramatic character that makes one live In the noble sentiment of the scene as it pauses. Special arrangements have been made for (he appearance as soloist of Miss Amy Evans, as soprano, and Mr. Fraser Gauge, as baritone. They will be ably supported by Miss Frances Morrison, contralto, Miss Iris Potter,' mezzo, and Mr. Edwin Dennis, tenor. The Royal Choral Union and Orchestra, totalling' MO members, under Mr. John Bishop, may lie confidently relied upon for a finished performance of the oratorio. A full rehearsal will be held this evening in St. John's Schoolroom, and the Hual takes place on Friday evening at the Town Hall.
