HOSPITAL SUBSIDIES
PALMEESTON COMPLAINT (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. The Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, is visiting Palmerston North for tho purpose of opening th© Maternity Homo at the hospital. A deputation from the Hospital Board asked the Minister for a. refund of the subsidy, totalling £1600, which the board this year had been called on to make to the Department. It was stated that in the first year of operation the refund reduced the rate of tho board's subsidy from 13s to Is under the lowest subsidy receivable under the- schedule. In reply, Mr. Young said that he had endeavoured' to more heavily subsidise the poorer districts which received a higher rate of ■ subsidy than the wealthier districts. If he found that the snbsidy principle could not be worked satisfactorily, he was prepared to ask the Government to legislate so that no board would roceivo less than 14s.
