MARIST v. THISTLE!1 Marist and Thistle met on No. 2 ground at the Basin Reserve, and a bright, interesting game resulted. Marist then pressed, but Thomas kicked behind and Thistle were able to make progress, a nice movement developing on the right .wing. Smith lost, possession near the line, but Campbell recovered in time to get a shot in, the ball going just outside the upright. Thomas sent Marist away, and Fletcher had to concede a corner. Thistle cleared from this, and instituted a strong attack which ended in a series o£corner kicks. Campbell tested Hickey out with a good ,shot, but' the Marist goalkeeper was equal to the occasion. Soon afterwards the Thistle goal had a narrow escape, the ball deflecting off a Thistle back and striking one of the tiprights. >It was a lucky happening for Thistle. Thistle came away again and Lothian just Bcimmed the cross-bar with a good shot. They continued to give Marist a lively time, but the Marist backs stood up to their task well. Marist made occasional excursions' into Thistle territory, but the forwards failed to finish them off. Eventually Thistle's many efforts brought their reward, and Honeyman found the goal after a pretty piece of work. Thistle 1, Marist 0. ••-• There liad been no further scoring when half-time ar- . Marist attacked strongly on the resumption of play, and Marshment sent in a swift, low shot which brought Fletcher to his knees to save. Play continued fairly even for a time, but eventually Marist forwards broke away in fine style and Condon, running clear of the ruck, sent the ball home and brought the scores level.
