DAYLIGHT BAKING
CONFERENCE NEXT MONTH REPRESENTATION OF PARTIES In Hie course of last yeaT's session of Parliament a Bill to provide for daylight linking was introduced in the House of Representatives by Mr. P. Frascr, M.P. After hearing evidence concerning its proposals from representatives of employers and employees, the Labour Bills Committee recommended that it bo not allowed to proceed, but that the Minister of Labour should summon in the recess a conference of master bakers and their employees with a view to arranging, it' possible, a moans of giving effect to the proposals for daylight baking adopted by the International Labour Conferonce at Geneva in 1925. The Minister (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) gave an .undertaking that he would call a conference of parties. In reply to a question on the subject to-day, the Acting-Minister of Labour (the Hon. R. A. Wright) said that some difficulty had been experienced in securing adequate represcnta-. tion for non-employing bakers who had no organisation of their own, but he had decided that a conference should be held early next month, to be composed of representatives of the Master Bakers.' and Pastrycooks' Association and the Bakers' and Pastrycooks' Industrial Association of Workers. Mr. Wright said it was expected that the interests of tho non-employing bakers would be adequately safeguarded by tho Master Bakers' Association, and added that no doubt any of them who were interested in the matter would get into touch with tho association for the purpose.
