WOMEN IN POLITICS

MISS ROYDEN'S HOPE (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. "When I return to New Zealand again I do hope I shall find a woman, or better still, women, in your Parliament," stated Miss Maude Royden, the famous British preacher and author, before she sailed for Sydney by the Marama. . • ■ Although her tour of the Dominion lasted barely three weeks, Miss Uoyden saw much of the country and came in contact with so many people that sho claims she now has "a good idea of the New Zealand' viewpoint. "I realise that there will never bo many women in any Parliament, because I think a woman's first place is in her home," continued Miss Boydeu. "Men will always bo in the majority, as it should be, but I think that women in Parliament can only do good. They give balance which should always prove useful md helpful. My knowledge of New Zealand makes mo realise that there will never be many women in Parliament, because generally speaking they are so very domesticated, but I do sincerely hope that I will soon hear of Now Zealand's first woman being elected to Parliament." Miss Eoyden said that she was greatly impressed with the buoyant spirit of the people of Now Zealand. "I suppose it is because this Dominion was so far removed from the centre of the war," sho said. "In England the spirit has boon broken a little, but one can always rely upon our people to push doggedly ahead." Discussing her plans for the future, Miss Eoyden said that she would tour tho Commonwealth and then travel ill the East, including China and Japan. After that things were a little uncertain. . '"

"I dislike listening to neighbours' quarrels," said Mr. K. Page, S.M., in th,c Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, when a ease of this description was brought up. "Get together and you might settle it yourselves," he advised, and the parties departed from the Court to attempt a solution of the trouble without the aid of the law.
