MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police cases in the Magistrate's., Court to-day were dealt with by Mr. JO. Page,' S.M. Two first offenders tot1 drunkenness, who did not appear, were fined the amount of their bail, 10s each. Another was fined ss. William James Crawford, a labourer, aged 19, who pleaded guilty to having been found without lawful excuse^ in a, railway carriage in the Lambton Station yards, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon' within twelve months. Senior-Sergeant Butler said that Crawford, who belonged to Central Otago, was • found in the railway carriage early this morning. He left Dunedin several weeks ago and came north in search ot work. He failed to obtain employment, and had been sleeping out. The accused who had not been in trouble before, Had wired his people for- some money in order that he might return to his home. A condition was made- that Crawford remain in, the Salvation Army Home until lie receives the money from his people. Failure to close shops at the proper time resulted in Kwong Hing and Co, Xgan Chong, and Sing On Tie being fined £2 each; and Joe Wing and 00., 10s. Ngan Kew was fined £1 on. a charge of ill-treating a fowl and a duck by tailing to provide them with sufficient food, water, and shelter.
