ESTEATMENT OF BAIL

A SURETY'S OBLIGATIONS '■: An application by.the. poHco'for. the; estreatnient of bail.. (£250), . entered into by Thomas Weatherburn, licensee, of the Dominion Hotei, was heard by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's' Court'to-day. On the morning of the hearing he "went out to Lower Hutt to see his sister,-.and left her-with the .expressed intention .of,'. returning to .town. He. did, not appear "in" Court,. .and ■liad not been seen- in Wellington.since. ■When Weatherburn learnt that JEEobbs was missing, he placed his car at the disposal of the police,, and in company with detectives he searched localities where Hobbs was likely to bo, but without success. Counsel submitted that the Bench was not obliged to order ■ the estreatment of bail, provided there was proof that the surety had done everything in his power to bring the accused before the Court.
