MESSAGE FROM THE POPE The Roman Catholic Archbishop o£ Brisbane (Dr. Duhig), who has been on a visit to Rome, has arrived, home again, state* the "Sydney Sun." While in Rome Dr. Duhig had an audience with the Pope, and after speaking a great deal about the Eucharistic Congress his Holiness directed tho following message, which he asked Dr. Duhig to convey to the Archbishop of Sydney and the Congress Committee:— "The Holy Father unites with the devoted Catholic people of Australia in praying for the success of the forthcoming International Eucharistic Congress in Sydney. His Holiness is confident that under the protection of Heaven it will be abundantly fruitful in spiritual results. "Finally, the Holy Father renews the Apostolic benediction on all who are working for the congress." While in Borne Archbishop Duhig learned that the following leading churchmen would be coming to the congress:— The Father-General of the Carmelites, Eev. Father M'Ginnis; the Father-Gene-ral of the Augustinians, Rev. Dr. O'Gorman; the Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal Dubois; the Abbot of the Maronite Monastery, Rome (representing the Eastern Church); the Archbishop of Cashel (Ireland). Dr. Harty; the Bishop of Down and Connor, Dr. M'Rory; the Bishop of Raphoe, Dr. M*Nealy (successor of the late Cardinal O'Donnell); > tho Bishop of Cork, Dr. Cohalan; the Bishop of Ferns (Wexford); the Archbishop of Colombo, Ceylon (who will lead a delegation of Indian bishop* and clergy); the Archbishop of Manila (who will lead a delegation from the Philippine Islands). With the Papal Legate there will be a great number of the Catholic laity from France and Italy. Dr. Curran, of the Irish College in Rome, has been released for six months, accompanying them in an official capacity, and to look after their welfare in Australia. Others coming are; The Archbishop of Tokio, Japan; the Bishop of Nagasaki (the first native Bishop of Japan); Monsignor l'Epicies (Apostolic Visitor in India and Africa), who was a striking figure at Montreal and Chicago, and who is a member of the permanent committee of congress; the Bishop of Portsmouth, Dr. Cotter, and the Bishop of Southwark, London, Dr. Amigo.
