An excellent example of the very host kind of civic spirit has been provided by the Havelock North Volunteer Fiifl Brigade, the commissioning of whose new .engine was the pretext for mild celebrations at Havelock on Saturday afternoon, says an exchange. There is no class of man more admirable than the volunteer fireman, but the Havelock brigade has gone farther than most. Some time ago the Town Board ' bought a second-hand chassis, and the firemen took charge of it. By entirely voluntary work, under the supervision of the superintendent (Mr. A. Toop), and with material collected here and there, they have turned it into Havelock's first motor fire engine. On Saturday it was given an official send off, and though it is modest in size to accord with local requirements, nothing could be smarter, moro professionallooking, or more mechanically perfect.
