METHODIST CHURCHES

On the occasion of his first official visit to Wellington during the past week, Dr. Ranston, president of the Methodist Conference, was met and welcomed by about 200 office-bearers of the churches in and around the city. The chairman- of the district, Rev. E. D. Patchett, occupied the chair, and addresses of welcome were delivered "by^the chairman and Mr. R. B. T. Richardson.

In the course of his reply to the welcome, Dr. Raneton said fre needed a revival of high churchmanship, a revival of love of the church and the restoration of the church as the chief of our associations. The church, he said, was the power-house of the spirit, and it was essential that the church should make a spiritual impact upon the whole community, and its success was indicated by the extent to which it spread the spirit of, God, and by the extent to which it was making the people more gentle and lovable.
