NEW LAMP-SHADES FROM OLD

A silk lamp shade that has become soiled or torn may be re-covered easily by anyone who is ablo to sew neatly. First of all, the old cover must bo removed, so that only the wire framework is left. . Each wire must then be bound firmly with muslin of a similar shade to the silk which is to be used for the cover.

The silk may now be fastened on, one section at a time. It must be stretched tightly across tho section, whipped round the wire at oach side, and stitched to the muslin. Caro must bo taken that tho silk is not cut on the cross. It must bo straight from tho centre of tho top wire to the centre of the bottom wire. When all 1 tho sections have been covered narrow braiding, in eithor a matching or a contrasting colour, should bo stitched down each seam to hide tho join.

As a finishing touch a few coloured beads, cither wood or glass, may bo suspended from each corner.
