REMITS CONSIDERED
QUESTION OF FRANCHJSB
To-day's session of the ]?ainKa>s*i Union Conference discussed remits cfesW ing with educational and general in*?*: ters. ■
It was decided to oppose any move-toN centralise the control of schools.
Other remits dealing with various < educational matters, chiefly affeetinljj backblock schools, were withdraws:! after the XHreetoT of Education, m; T. B. Strong, had explained certaiife matters about which the conference 3&> sired information.

Two remits laving reference to maim highways read as follows:—That ik 11 view of the increasing burden of county* rates this conference again urges fnaS Government to nationalise all main »$ terial highways, and that protest b'<* made against the raising of a loan fo3 mam highways without a vote of tfS ratepayers. The former was lost by M votes to 33 and the latter was also d£* feated. "
