BRIBERY OF POLICE
FINDING OF COMMISSION
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SCANDAL
fUnited Press Association.—Copyright) (Eeceived 28th July, 1 p.m.)
ADELAIDE, This Day. After two years' investigations aa to charges of bribery of members of the Police Force by illicit bookmakers the judgment of the Eoyal Commissioner has been delivered. He . says that on full consideration of the evidence he found it impossible to escape the general conclusion that for several years before the appointment of the Commission there had been in operatioa to some extent bribery of police officers by bookmakers and their agents. The extent of this could not accurately be judged from the available testimony. The final and most convincing ground for giving this decision had been the evidence concerning the finances of certain police officers. The Commissioner found that a number of plain-clothes constables, whom he named, had received money from sources not disclosed. The probability was, he said, a portion of it consisted of bribed, some at least- of which was from bookmakers or their agents.
