DUNLOP DEVELOPMENT.
The provisional agreement for an alliance between the Dunlop Kubber Company of Australasia, Ltd., and the English Dunlop Eubber Co., Ltd., is a stop towards unification of interests, which may be expected to enhance considerably tho already strong • position of the Australian company. The directors of the Australian company recommend the scheme because, "with the steady development of world competition in the industry, a policy of isolation is fraught with danger." The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., o£ Akron, Ohio, U.S.A., last year decided to establish its own factory in Australia. A new company, the Goodyear Tire and- Kubber Co. (Australia), Ltd., was formed, £300,----000 in 8 per .cent, preference shares being subscribed locally, and £400,000 in ordinary shares, being paid up in cash by the American company. This company's factory, near Sydney, will open in a few months. It is announced that a separate company, jointly owned by the two Dunlop companies, is to be formed to develop trade in~New Zealand.
