WELLINGTON CENTRE

THE ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre was held last evening, Mr. S. M. Stone (Seatoun) presiding. The following delegates were present: Messrs. J. Kershaw (Hataitai), W. T. Goodwin (Thorndon), B. C. Irines (Victoria), G. Hehdry (Otaki), J. W. Jones (Central), W. Bourke (Khandallah), J. Laughton (Newtown), G. E. Ingram (Wellington N G. H. G 'hrie (Upper Hutt), H. F. Clarke (Island Bay), F.G. Hazlewood (Lyall Bay), B. G. H. Burn (Karori), M. J. Hodgins (Hutt), F. Meadowcrqft (Kelburn), and B. W. Shp.^.crass, hon' sec. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, particulars of which have been published in " The Post," the chairman urged all clubs to • fill their membership lists. There were plenty of , clubs who could do with all the bowlers offering. As far as weather was concerned the season had been sue-, cessful. He thanked the officers of the centre, especially Mr. Shallcrass, hon. secretary, for assistance during, the past s -vson. '■'■'. •.-'.■ .

Mr. E. G. H. Burn seconded the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and, in doing so, paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Shallcrass.

Mr. F. 1 Meadowcrof t. said any success in the past year was duo to the admirable officers of the .centre. He expressed the-hope that districts like Brooklyn and Wadestown, which tapped large areas, would form clubs. During the year a new club, Plimmerton, had been.formed. Ho hoped by nest year there would be more. He also spoke eulogistically of Mr. Stone.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ■...-.... ,

The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. Marcus Marks; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Kershaw; hon. audi-* tor, Mr. E. A. Liddle; executive, all delegates to the centre, ten to form a quorum.

THE DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP.

Mr. Meadowcroft moved that it be a recommendation to the Dominion Bowling Association: (a)" That the section play in the champion rink competition be in the future two ganies per day of 25 heads each for four days' play, (b) That no rinks other, than section winners or ties in section shall qualify for post-section, play if they havo been more than twice defeated."

In support of the first part of his motion, Mr. Meadowcroft said it was no holiday if one had to play three games a day: Mr. J. Laughton said he thought three games a day should be played, so that all ranks could participate in the tournament. . Mr. C. R. Ingram said from a bowling point of view three games a day were preferable to two games daily. He | was satisfied that the majority of bowlera in New Zealand favoured three games a day. - Mr. J. Kershaw moved an amendment that the Dominion Council be recommended to make tho championships three games a day of twenty-or^o heads each. ; Mr. D. C. Innes said the two-game day meant more pleasure to men who were going for the holiday. The twogame day. would probably result in increased entries. Mr.'Kershaw's amendment of the three-gamo day was carried by eight votes to seven. Mr. J readowcroft's second motion waa carried unanimously. EXECUTIVE MEETING-. At the conclusion of the annual meeting, an executive, meeting of the .Wellington Centre was held. Mr. J. Kershaw presided in the absence of Mr.Marks. .. Mr. R. W, Shallcrass waa re-elected to the position of hon. secretary. A letter was received from the Otaki Club, stating that the club had decided to affiliate with the Manawatu Centre, owing to the club's inability to compete in the Wellington Centre tournaments. The resignation of the club from the centro was accepted with regret. PENNANT PLAY. Two letters were received in regard to senior pennant play. . The Khaudallah Club wrote stating that tho club favoured, the playing of. pennants as formerly; two rinks at home: and two away. . The club also favoured the i Fiygcr : Shield bein^ a one-rink club I challenge event similar to the Edwin Feathers. Lyall Bay Club wroto supporting;.. pennant, play as. last season. Some, discussion arose as to whether the system of pennant play for the coming season be decided that night, or postponed till the next meeting, in the meantime any notices of motion to be forwarded, to the,centre. It was decided that the question of pennant play be considered at - a meeting to bo held on 16th August. . It was decided to strike a levy of Is" a member for the. general fund, and an additional levy of 6d for an entertainment fund. ' : It was decided that after 16th Aug. ust the regular meeting night be the second Tuesday in every nionth.
