TENNIS CHAMPION FAREWELLED

PALMEBSTON N., This Day. Palrnerston North's tennis champion Mr. E. D. Andrews, who is leaving shortly for England, where ho will undergo a course of study at Cambridge, M-as accorded a civic farewell yesterday 'v the Council Chambers.
The Mayor (Mr. A. J. Graham) presided, and after referring to the champion's successful career as a tennis player, and the esteem in which he was held by the townspeople, expressed the hope that he would earn further laurels in the field of sport. He asked his acceptance of a gold wristlet watch and a set of military brushes as a token of regard.
Mr. H. N. Watson, representing the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, also spoke in appreciation of Mr. Andrews's many high qualities, and likewise wished him every success at Home.
Mr. Andrews briefly replied and a pleasant function concluded with cheers for the champion.
