WARNING TO TAXI-DRIVERS

"I have a good mind to endorse your license since you have acted in a stupid, insane manner," said Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., to George Alexander Waddell, a taxi-driver, who was charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day with having driven in a dangerous manner. "But for the fact that you arc an old driver with seventeen years' experience and have no previous convictions, I would certainly have: endorsed your license. It is time that taxi-drivers learnt that nr, particular cars have tho right of the road, and that if ono^ car is in front of another it should be allowed to remain there. I want it to be known that any drivers who adopt this sort of senseless conduct will have their licenses endorsed. "

The prosecution alleged that just after midnight on 27th May tho defendant turned his car round in front of a car run by an opposition company at the Grand Hotel, and at tho intersection of Willis and Manners streets be stopped in the middle of tho road, blocking tho other car. Later on hfi several times shot across tho front of tho other car, nearly causing a collision, but on the last occasion he was intercepted by a sergeant and a constable.

Appearing for the defendant, Mr. W. E. Leicester said that Waddoll had undoubtedly acted in an unwise manner, but he had been provoked by the driver of the other car, who had fbrced him to change gear and slow down several times.
