LATEST IN AEROPLANE
ENGINES
WASHINGTON, 16th June. The Navy Department has announced that it is completing an aeroplane capable of a flying speed of 300 miles a~ hour. The machine will contain what is considered to be the largest aeroplane engine ever built, consisting of twenty-four cylinders, and developing 1250 horse-power. An effort will be made to exceed the speed record held by the French of 278.48 miles per hour. The engine will be adaptable for use in heavy bombing Kland seaplanes.
