In addition a yisit has been arranged for them to Newcastle,' where they will give exhibition games on local courses. The form dispiayed.by the visitors in practice and match game* so far played has given a very, fair indication of their quality, with which local pfoyers are much impressed. They, are particularly interested in the veteran champion, Arthur Duncan, who has retained his form long past the time when, the ordinary golfer is considered of it as far as "big" golf is "concerned. The iron play of T. H. Hdrton has very strongly impressed all who have seen him 1 play.- Iride^dj Fred Popplewell, a former open ehalnpioh of Australia, who is the professidriai of the Australian Cljib, Sydney* werii as.far as io say that Hprtdn was the finest, exponent of iron play that he had ever se'en—3iigh praise from one who played in the British open championship last year. Dr. Boss, Australians have previously seen in action, and his game has always commanded tho;highest resp'eet 'here. M'Farlano and Quin have not yet struck their-best form oi.the strange courses, ■ but h'avo shown sufficient of their capabilities to mark them as possibilities in the State championship. . - . The first match in which, the New Zoalanders participated was one against tho Sydney , professionals. They combined with local amateurs to make a team and met the professionals oh the Boyal Sydney." Club's links at Eose Bay. All the. visitors were followed by largo galleries, Duncan and Horton attracting the most attention. Duncan led tho amateur team, but he had to k'o under to -anothei 1 veteran in D G Sr, t? r'^ l}? ™Z a Paying at .the'top of his form. Hortpii did well td account_fot Popplewell, a fine match play-' or. . Horton was out in U, and had averaged fours up to the time that he ran out a winner, 4 up and 3 to play. Dr. Ross was up against a stiffer proposition than •he ■ could comfortably handle in W. Corry, a former State professional champioii, who had an irresistibly brilliant day finished a fairly easy winner. M'i'arlane reached tho .turn 4 up on die of tie best professionals in the State (F. Eyre), tut the latter -won. the next four holes. From then.out MTarlane dourly stuik to his man and squared the match. V James, another prominent professional! had td produce brilliant form to beat L. Quin. The latter Was not quite wound up, but gave » good account of himself. ■ '■ ■ . ■ . .
