COST OF THE WAR
NOT ASKED TO CONTRIBUTE
(A.P.A. and "Sun.")
(Eeceived 16tlx June, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, 15th June, la the House of Commons, the Foreign Under-Secretary, Mr. G. LockerLampson, in answer to a question said that the United States Government had not been approached with a suggestion that it should contribute to the cost of the war. Britain's war debt policy was well known. We favoured an allround cancellation, but, not securing acceptance, we were fulfilling our obligations as debtors' and as creditors seeking only to obtain from tho debts to Britain and reparations sufficient to cover the payments made. An international conference on war debts would serve no useful purpose in the absence of a preliminary agreement on general principles.
